Young Arts

We support the development of art and an appreciation of the arts generally among young people.  In the past we have supported promising local students in music and the arts with small grants to assist with travel costs, materials and incidental expenses.

Our current project is to develop a Church Trail for children to follow at St Michael & All Angels in Stockland, East Devon.  The route and details of items of note have been planned and a booklet is in course of production.

Mill Water School, Honiton

Last season, just  before Christmas 2010, we had great fun joining in art classes at Mill Water special needs school in Honiton. The abilities of the young students vary considerably, from those who can create a Christmas decoration almost unaided to those who perhaps just indicate what colour to use or where to stick the next jewel on their piece of work.  Thanks to a donation made by Honiton DFAS, wonderful decorations were created and sold at the school’s Christmas Fair.  The plan was to sell any extra decorations at our HDFAS Christmas lunch but they proved so popular that the decorations all sold out at the fair.

IN 2009/10 we sponsored a project at West Hill Primary School to decorate their entrance wall with painted panels on a number of community themes, with every child contributing a panel.  This was finished to coincide with the West Hill Art Exhibition held at the school during the Easter holidays.  A cheque for £250 was presented to the school in November 2009.

With much excitement the unveiling of the completed panels took place at the school on Monday 29th March, 2010 with children, parents, teachers, governors and members of Honiton DFAS attending.  These pictures show some of the children with the colourful panels, a close-up of the

HONITON LIBRARY CHILDREN'S ART COMPETITION

In January 2010 members of the Committee were asked to judge the Children's Art Competition at Honiton Library. The theme was wildlife and there was a high standard of entries, so making decisions was quite a challenge.  A display of the winning entries in the various categories is shown below.
